Call for Papers:

Continent-Focused Missions

For Publication in Global Missiology, www.globalmissiology.org, October 2027

Geographic territories have often been part of how Christian missions have focused their efforts. Jesus used geography in foretelling how his Spirit-empowered followers would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and beyond. The October 2027 issue of Global Missiology will examine how some churches and mission societies, organizations, and networks have defined their focus with a particular continent in view.

When and how the notion of “continent” developed is part of the examination. So is the matter of which model to use in counting how many continents there actually are—four, five, six, or (most common in the English-speaking world) seven. How and why continents have defined the origins or the destinations of mission efforts is also a topic to be explored. Related is the possible relationship between envisioning mission using continental boundaries and the territorial character of European Christendom. Roles of continent-focused missions amid contemporary realities of diaspora and digital connections also need examination.

The Editorial Team thus invites submissions that deal with any number of topics related to “Continent-Focused Missions,” including:

-   Pre-modern precursors to continent-focused missions

-   Developments in modern European geography and continent-focused missions

-   Modern European migrations and continent-focused missions

-   Continent-focused missions and Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant missions

-   Charismatic, Pentecostal, or Independent missions and continent-focused missions

-   Churches and continent-focused missions

-   Mission agencies and continent-focused missions

-   Mission networks and continent-focused missions

-   Digital networks and continent-focused missions

-   Diasporas and continent-focused missions

As always, case studies are especially welcome
