Abstract

Most books on Islam and Christianity deal with the subject in one or two ways: political or doctrinal. Such comparisons suffer two shortcomings. The first is that they tend to be polemical. The second is that people generally don't think in terms of doctrine or ideology: they think in terms of narrative. This book is thus all the more necessary. Miller has left the usual approaches behind to paint a broad picture of Islam and Christianity as metanarratives, as ways of explaining the course of history from its beginnings to its end. His treatment of the subject is succinct and compelling.
